virus cleaner updates?

Hi - my daughter is using this on her PC - seems to be doing the job! Question on the virus cleaner program - we downloaded and ran that. How is that tool/software updated on our PC - auto or do we keep downloading it when we want to run it??  Thx..  Doug

You download it each time. Its not too big,so i think size shouldn't be a problem. They update it when some new worm is released,but they don't do this for each and every worm,just for those that are toughest of all.

Well I know of the free removal tool at this site called "avast! Virus Cleaner" , which is updated by download the newest version from here ( http://www.avast.com/eng/products/free_software/cleaner/avast_virus_cleaner.html ). Well I just noticed that the Pro version of avast! seem to have the "Virus Cleaner" tool integrated with it (well it appears that way to me). The "Virus Cleaner" is listed under "File" while using the "enhanced user interface". So my question way how is it updated.

The one integrated is updated with VPS i guess. Only someone from alwil can confirm this for sure.

Yes, a special version of avast! Virus Cleaner is stored inside the avast! VPS file - so it's updated during a VPS update (when the Virus Cleaner actually is updated, of course).

However, avast! Virus Cleaner is a simple "remover" for a limited number of common worms/viruses. It doesn't have any resident protection itself, no archive scanning, etc - so I'm rather worried about the original post: "my daughter is using this on her PC". It's not a program you are supposed to be used "continuously".

   Right - I understand she does have to run the AVAST AV scan periodically (which has been finding things...)...and the virus cleaner can be used when a specific virus is found...

But...re Igor's comment above - is the free virus cleaner code updated as part of her normal automated code updates...??  Thanks!  DT
