first avast then Bitdefender and now McAfee........Symantec/Norton next ?.........

I hope so. I don't know why I hate Norton so much, I just do. I hate seeing my Dad and Stepmom paying money for a product that doesn't gurantee any more protection than a few free programs. Maybe a bad fp incident will wake them up.
Wishing something bad to happen to any one (including Symantec) is never a good thing. It usually comes back to bite you in the as* (rear).  ;D

+1 this was a stupid post (the one you quoted Bob not yours):

1 wishing bad luck to a company is insane
2 it's getting still more insane when we know that such mistakes lead to chaos...on users computers ::)

Yes,

I sympathize with McAfee after we ourselves got this mess few months ago with the false positive issue.

Only people who have experienced these issue will know how embarrassing and terrible it is for users as well as for the company.

The tragedy of false positives is open for avast also.
I've opened a thread in Evangelists' forum and until now, not a post from Alwil.
Access to Chest by a CD/DVD will be a possible solution to restore the file. I think BART CD could have this technology. I think it should be extended to all avast users.

+1 I strongly agree with Tech, are you still waiting for an answer from Alwil :-\

I'm not 100% the Bart CD option should go into the Pro and up to cover the cost, as I remember when I tried the trial version of Bart CD it was a paid version. It would be nice to include this Bart CD platform into the free version, but I don't think Alwil will plan this option into the free version because they might give away to much free option while they are running a business.

I'm not asking for Bart CD to be free.
I'm not even asking for a bootable CD/DVD scanning antivirus.
I'm only asking for access to Chest by a CD/DVD and possibility of restoring files.

Bob, if the user can't make logon, why would my tool have any utility?

Bob, I'm not able to access Chest at boot time... I can't make a tool for it.
My tool works if the user wants/needs access at logon time.

My error, sorry.
Don't worry. Never mind.
Some people seems to have develop a plugin for PE environment and run avast 4.
I could never "use" it and I don't know if it will work on version 5.
The better and easier will be Alwil acknowledge this and give us access to Chest.

I don't see much of a difference between programs.  Avast just destroyed my boot drive and support can't be bothered to respond.  At least McAfee support responds to critical issues.  They may not fix them, but at least they respond.

I find that hard to believe especially since you didn't post any details.  ???

I've installed avast! on 100's of computers and it's never destroyed anything.  :)
