Help with possible Virus
« on: April 27, 2010, 10:25:20 PM »
Hi guys

I'm using VMWare Fusion 3 with Windows XP Home Edition. Today I did a virus scan on my mac in snow leopard using avast for mac. It says that these files are infected by a trojan Win32:Hupigon-ONX Trj in Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm:
Windows XP Home Edition-000002-s001.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-000002-s002.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-000002-s006.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-000003-s001.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-000003-s002.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-000003-s005.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-000003-s006.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-s001.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-s002.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-s005.vmdk
Windows XP Home Edition-s006.vmdk

However when I do a virus scan in this Windows VM using AVG and Avast they both say my system is clean and safe. I don't know if avast for mac is correct or wrong and wonder what I should do, ignore it or something else?
I have tried repairing it and quarantine it, but they didn't work. Also deleting these files will stop Windows from working.

UPDATE: I have got in contact with VMWare users (the people who made the VM), they say that it might be a false positive as this sort of thing happens with these files. They said I should send one of the files to be checked, but I can't as Avast crashes when trying to quarantine, is there any other way I can get it checked.

Thank You.

Thank You for your response. I have checked that topic and might be the same, I'll send one of the files for scan to that email.

Looks like many-GB image files, so better don't even try to e-mail them :).

If nothing is detected within the virtual machine then yes.
