My Computer folder slowed
« on: April 22, 2010, 02:52:40 AM »
 Why is it that avast! makes the My Computer folder in Windows XP lag for 7 seconds when I open it? This problem goes away if I uninstall avast! but can anyone help me solve it? Sometimes its not just My Computer, it happens in any application that searches for a place to store or read a file from since it first lists all the drives.

Please provide more info about your system, also about version/build of avast.
Never had similar problems on different XP systems.

 Operating system installed is Windows XP Pro SP3 all latest updates duo core at 3.00 GHz 512 mb RAM. I currently have version 5.0.507 but it has happened with previous builds excluding beta.
 Yes I do have a floppy drive but I can't see that as the problem. Other AVs don't do this why should avast!?

Running XP Pro with only 512MB RAM will slow the system down.

I upgraded my XP Pro system to 1.5GB RAM and it made it run almost as fast as my Windows 7 system.

RAM is very easy to install and the best way to improve system performance.

<snip>

Have you made any changed to the File System Shield, Expert Settings, Sensitivity (or any others) ?

As YoKenny said, RAM should help your overall system performance and not just for avast.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

@YoKenny
 You are incorrect. You should see how fast my compter runs with 512 mb RAM. The minimum requirement for Windows XP Pro is 128 mb. I don't think you can help me. Notice that I said beta versions, even the last ones, did not have this problem. Also the the versions just out of beta had no problem.

 And no I have made no changes that would affect My Computer from lagging. The configuration I have is the same one for my friend who has same operation system yet he doesn't have this problem. I had the same settings as in beta, no problem there.

 IVE LOCATED THE PROBLEM. ITS THE SANDBOX. I uremove it and the lag for viewing the root locations on hard drive is gone. I add it back in for some reason the My Computer folder is free from the lag. Else where it isn't.
