Avast antirootkit scan - 21 hidden items found - Help!
« on: April 23, 2010, 11:41:39 PM »
I've been having all sorts of problems after my Avast AV found a Win32 Spy - programmes wont load, Windows Installer thinks i'm on a network (i'm not), lost my admin rights etc.
I posted these on 19 April under "Subject: vrbisftav.exe  Office & Excel wont load. Windows Installer etc problems" and await reply.
I saw Avast Antirootkit mentioned in a today post on these forums and ran it - found 21. But what to do with them??
Scanlog is attached.
Hope you can help/advise ...

You might be wasting your time there, as you appear to be using the 'very old' beta version of avast anti-rootkit. It was only in beta for a while as a stand alone application, so that it could be incorporated into the main avast antivirus program. So the beta never progressed out of beta into a regular release stand alone application as it was intended for use within the main antivirus program.

One of the early issues was of it reporting hidden items that weren't necessarily rootkits.

The one in the avast5 is more accurate (it runs automatically 8 minutes after boot) and doesn't report these things simply because they are hidden.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

OK and many thanks for your reply.

Could you or someone please have a look at my separate post of April 19th on Subject "vrbisftav.exe  Office & Excel wont load. Windows Installer etc problems" as i'm still awaiting a reply and still have problems.
