.EXE Packer file
« on: December 10, 2004, 06:36:43 PM »
Hi all,

I have a .EXE installation file and avast doesn't seem to scan inside the packer (says only scanned one file), does avast add packers that are not scanned inside, is so, do i send them to the same place as the virus submissions?

sorry for the bad wording above, i wasn't sure of the technical words

It seems like that exe file is not packed (or supported by avast antivirus) - dont you know what archiver is it ? exec-packer/winexec packer - or it can be arj-sfx, rar-sfx, etc... if it's unknown packer type, we're not going to support it now. You can send me that file and i'll tell you more about its internal structure/type.

Hi pk,
This is somewhat related. I use a program called PowerArchiver since it's capable of handling almost all packers. Lately I've noticed that if a file is tagged as a zip file but within the zip also contains other packers, the on demand and ashQuick don't seem to handle the file. I have to actually open the archivers interface and from with in the interface select scan.
At that point the files are uncompressed in a temp folder and then scanned by ashQuick.

@ lee16

if the executable file isn't too large for your email, send it to me.

Quite happy to have a look for you
