When I started my computer this evening, avast asked about updating to 5.0.545, which I allowed.
Everything seemed fine, but it isn't.
I discovered soon that my mailclient Thunderbird wasn't getting any mails.
Soon I realized it was the avast-update. Previously avast and Thunderbird were getting along just fine. I have made absolutely no changes to my Thunderbird. Then I tried several changes in the avast-configuration concerning the mail-security which I had not touched before at all.
The only way I get my mails with Thunderbird is stopping the mail-checking of avast.
My Windows is Win 7 Home Premium 32bit.
I also checked the Win-Restoring (to yesterday) but Windows got messed up, no desktop showed up. Unsuccessful restoring in windows is a rare thing for and I'm doing that quite often. I don't know whether this has anything to do with avast as well. Anyway, undoing the restoring, having 5.0.545 again (with stopped mail-security) and my system is working again.
Please fix this Thunderbird-mail-problem.
Otherwise I'm a satisfied avast-free-user.

Updated fine -- as noted by others, I was surprised at relatively small download.

Slightly off-topic, I didn't update when the popup first showed because I was in the middle of other things.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that the new (in ver. 5) "Show last popup" thing included the active "Update now" link ... I'd never tried before, and assumed the link was only active in the original popup.

avasttipper posted before I finished this, so I should comment on that one.  No problems for me with TBird and the new avast update.

Updated FREE from 5.0.507 > 5.0.545.

It seems to be o.k.! :)

But my "Custom-Scan" in the new version is slower than in 5.0.507 although the presuppositions are exactly the same:

5.0.507: 17:59 minutes
5.0.545: 19:22 minutes.

It is a pity, but otherwise I'm not on flight... ;)

Kind regards

I never got a popup for the update. I just saw a little button to click on in the GUI when I opened to see when the last AV update had been done. It just said Program update next to it so I clicked on that and it worked fine.

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Painless update from .507 to .545 using the internal updater, when it prompted.
Time (+ a reboot) less than 2 minutes.

Also using Thunderbird, all working normally.
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

Nice Upgrade!

Thanks Avast!

The scans, what I wanted to post in my previous versions are even faster now on my old Windows XP machine.

Hi guys.

When I click to download Avast Free in Alwil products web page, it takes me to CNT Downloads, but it is still offering 507. What gives?

Thank you.

I also just went to CNT Downloads for Avast pro, said on site (Avast Pro Antivirus 5.0.545).  Downloaded to computer and version file when right click says version 507.

No huge drama, but disappointing as i have limit for download usage per month and have just wasted 46 mb.
Will try tomorrow and see what i get.

Edit: Have now downloaded from MajorGeeks

Cheers
