this new interface is fantastic, and I'm really upset with people's reactions ::) I guess I should get used to it, it's always the same when changes occur, the old one was always better ::) ...as you may have noticed in my posts here, I'm far from being a philanthropist, and every time something like that happen, how the majority reacts to new good stuff (I insist on "good", the new interface is just brilliant), I know why I'm not...a philanthropist ;D

ps: I've been there when Vista came out, been there too when KDE 4 in Linux came out etc... ::)

The same objections are also there when it comes to the new interface of avast!.  ;D
There will always be those that appose change of any kind even when it's for the better. :)

true, I didn't mention it but that's also exactly what happened when Avast 5 came out, people looking for skins etc...asking to implement all the old features back ;D

It isn't because its new, its because it gives one very long thin column with large white bands (side bars), once you get past the small section of the side bar with any data. This makes the page much longer to contain the same number of search results and much more scrolling.

Why they didn't simply have a Hide option like many sites and browsers do to hide side bars if they become obtrusive is beyond me, then there wouldn't have been as much of a storm in a tea cup rather than YoKenny's Tempest in a Teapot.

Judging by the numbers of people showing their discontent on the google forums I would say those who love it are in the minority, certainly on the google forum topics about this.

No such problem here with the Firefox Hide Google Options add-on installed, which removes the side bar.

so you mind the side bar but you don't mind the colorful tabs and the Gnome theme (Noia 2) on Firefox ;D

I wouldn't have installed the add-on if I didn't like them, they unlike this weren't forced on me with no option to remove it. As such a bad comparison (unlike the forced google side bar), since they were a personal choice and don't take up any more room or effect the page layout.

my post was sarcastic ;) I know that's your personal choice David I know...you just opted for a skin and a tab extension that would make me stop using a computer for the rest of my life  :D while you're blaming Google (I read your post on their forums) for improving things considerably, you also blame the cosmetic side of the new interface...okay...you'd rather die than switch to Vista or Seven... (as if the 2014 support deadline for xp was a valid justification)...I mean this is all very coherent...and we're all free people living in a free world... :)

I also saw your post and truly there are times when I think that you take a contrary view just to wind people up. You also put words into peoples mouths, I have never said anywhere that I would rather die than switch to Vista or Win7.

So this to me is going off at another tangent just to keep the contrary side going when I have said that your argument/sarcasm doesn't hold water as the comparison is like chalk and cheese, completely different.

Yes, the new google interface looks bad when you get past the small area of the side tabs but there is absolutely acres of wasted screen space and to me it looks ugly. You mention we are all free people living in a free world well that freedom given by the google change is to either take it or leave it no option to close the side bar

This I feel is a shame to deny the configurability on the basic search engine interface/layout when google have gone some way with their iGoogle/MyGoogle inferface and high degree of user configurability.

It isn't going to hurt me, as I said in my post on that topic, those that don't like it (most of the 350+ posts on that topic), are going to do something about it either move to another clean search engine (which may or may not hurt google), ixquick, altavista.

Or do what I have done install the Hide Google Options and they may take a step further in using something like OptimizeGoogle add-on and remove even more and block ads on all google services. In the past I haven't blocked google ads based on the service they were providing.
