Avast 5.0.545 and Outlook 2010 Beta sending problems
« on: May 11, 2010, 10:18:20 PM »
Hi, I have problems with Avast blocking Outlook 2010Beta sending mail.

I have seceived two error messages up to now, namely 0x800CCC7 (cannot connect with encrypted connection) and 0x800 CCC64 (Verify e-mail address in account properties).

I can send if i disable outbound messages scanning in the Mail shield.

Ifind this very strange as on a secong PC with the same settings this problem does not appear.

Which is your firewall? Operational system?

A friend of mine who is also using avast! 5.0.545 and Outlook 2010 RTM (not Beta) is also having this problem with the exact same error. If he disables the mailguard he can send and receive mail again. He is using Windows 7 Ultimate with the standard firewall, no extra things there.

5.0.545 must have changed something as myself and others have had sending email issues.  I had the same error code you did and resovled it as you did by disabling Mail Shield.

I presume you're accessing mail via POP3 and not SMTP which also means you probably have SSL and/or TLS configured in your account your connection.  You need to disable these settings in Outlook 2010 and let Avast! Mail Shield handle the SSL accounts

I have a similar issue, cannot send email from my school email address.  did the steps/settings but i get this:

Sending reported error (0x800CCC67): The server responded: 421 cannot connect to SMTP server 142.204.1.21 (142.204.1.21:25)

and:
sending reported error (0x80042109): outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (STMP) email server. if you continue to recieve this message, contact your server administrator or internet service provider

and:
sending reported error (0x8004210B): teh operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (STMP) email server. if you continue to recieve this message, contact your server administrator or internet service provider

this is on the latest version of avast home program and virus db as of May 13, 2010 21:12 EDT.  I'm running Windows 7 ultimate, Outlook Professional Plus 2010 BETA version: 14.0.4536.1000 (32-bit)

Ginshi13,

this is most likely because you have "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" checked in your email settings.  You should uncheck this box.

I have already told you on another thread that you do NOT have the ecryption issue.

Cannot cannot means - well, cannot connect. If you cannot connect, then you never get to the login stage actually.  Meaning, the server is unreachable - blocked by your FW, down, or whatever. It works fine from here:

Code: [Select]
> telnet 142.204.1.21 25
220 learn.senecac.on.ca -- Server ESMTP (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.

Though, looking at the Java greeting banner, I'd think about changing email providers... mailserver in Java, yuck :P
