error 1006(000003EE) opening self-extract archive
« on: May 09, 2010, 11:07:20 PM »
I downloaded Avast! Free Edition 5.0.545, when it finished i clicked on the icon on desktop,it started throwing files from one folder to the other then stopped and error message read    error 1006(000003EE) opening self-extract archive. I have cleaned out caches on both IE and Mozilla Firefox and downloaded from at least three different sites. I have tried installing in safe mode as well.  have not even got to use antivirus program yet.    I have tried all the fixes in your forum to no avail. thank  you for answering

Here's the direct download link (avast server) for the free version:
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
Also update your Vista, you are running an outdated service pack..!!

"Flipped Out"...You probably won't get this, as it's been 6 months since you posted the problem below, but if you do, PLEASE tell me if you fixed it and how! I have the same exact issue and nothing posted as helped.  Thanks
