Well the last posts seem to be from 2005- 2004 don't you think it should be re-opened those *flameing* people should be long gone by now.

Asked many times in the intervening years and the answer was/is a resounding no or a deafening silence to the question.

Time has passed but general habits/behaviour don't rely on the fact that flaming people are long gone. Alwil just weren't prepared to have to monitor/intervene as required, even when there were avast users (not Alwil staff members) assigned as moderators.

I wasn't here when that forum area was open, but David's right, whatever issues they were having don't go away just because certain people may not be around the forum anymore. Others will certain take their place!

I'm an active member in a health-related forum that has many off-topic threads. It's basically not moderated, with the creator (company rep) of the forum stepping in only occasionally.  Things get pretty heated sometimes but usually settle down after a time, usually after someone(s) been pounced on by several of the other outspoken members!l  I've been there long enough to see the even when a "troublemaker" leaves in a huff, someone else always comes along doing the same things.  Personally, I'd like to see it moderated just a tad, but that's the way they have it, so... ::)

Not saying I wouldn't like to see it reopened here, but I can certainly understand why they would prefer to keep it closed.

Just my two cents... ;)

Either it should be reopened or deleted, it's hanging around there rather senseless...
I don't think many users would be interested in reading 5 years old threads.

Deletion removes not only a valuable source of information which is still available with the search function. Removal of a complete forum also removes the posts and stats from all those who have contributed to that forum.

So you could say the same for all topics in all forums over a few years old as they were for older versions of the avast product range. So it isn't a good idea to simply remove it.

in some forums I know, the policy (I agree with) is that the chat section posts aren't counted at all ;) ...so that's not argument I'd take into account.
Adding the the general topic section here seem to have happily replaced the off-topic forum ;D

+1 It time to deleted or reopen it from scratch clean and empty.

Edit: I do remember there was a lot of flaming verbal fight going on in the past "Agree to Disagree"

If Alwil staff members wanted to reopen this "topic forums/thread" we have to work out away not to get ourself caught out in the verbal fight, otherwise it will be closed again no matter how hard we can try and keep it friendly and open like a Avast fourm community.

One of my friends over on the Opera Community found this out the hard way.  As per the MyOpera Visitor Counter, she used to have 100,000 plus visitors.  Then for whatever reason, she decided to delete almost all of her Blog Posts.  Well, the next thing she knew, her visitor count was down to 15,000 or small number way down there.

Hi Chim,

I think this will hang here a bit longer like a sort of an "appendix". "The appendicitis was cured, but it did not have to be removed." ;)
But if reopened it would again be open to trolls, lurers, etc. to be closed again soon,

Trolls and "Lurers" are present on all the forums. They aren't indigenous to just the "Off Topic" forum.  :'(

Hi bob3160,

You know as well as I why it was closed, and you cannot guarantee it would not happen again whence it was reopened,
