Avast! and Thunderbird
« on: March 16, 2007, 02:34:23 AM »
Sorry If I am not understanding. I read old forum and need clarification

Avast home works transparently with thunderbird. Even though the settings say email-outlook/express, it is really working with thunderbird. Is this correct?

Otherwise- excellent so far!

Can you rephrase a little?
avast does work transparently with email programs with Windows 2k\XP\Vista but not with Windows 98 or Me.
The Internet Mail provider is the one which protects pop3/smtp email programs like Thunderbird and Outlook Express.

hello kilbert!
There's no need to use outlook/outlook express provider, if you're using thunderbird, instead of it, scanning of mail in your e-mail client are made by avast! Interet mail provider, that is shown on a picture below 8)

The Internet Mail provider will scan emails (for Thunderbird and other mail clients) that use regular POP/SMTP connections.

It will not scan emails that are received or sent using secure (SSL/TLS) connections (for scanning of those messages you need to use another program to manage the secure connection - STunnel is the best known).

It will not (by default) scan any emails received or sent using the the Thunderbird Webmail extensions (or other third party Webmail converters like YPops, FreePops, MrPostman, Hotmail Popper).  If you need help with this just advise.
