Problems with Thunderbird 3 and Avast Free 5.0
« on: May 22, 2010, 01:53:36 PM »
I'm using Thunderbird 3 and IMAP/SMTP mail accounts.

Every time Thunderbird sends a messge, the copy to my Sent folder fails.

Also, I have to disable Avast E-mail protection in order to let THunderbird save the passwords.

If I then enable Avast e-mail protection, things are very slow.

My mail accounts are set as no connection security (no STARTTLS, TLS or SSL).

Same thing with my SMTP-server settings.

In Avast my listed SSL accounts are:

server1           SMTP        525     SSL
server1           IMAP         143     TLS
server2           SMTP        465     SSL
server2           IMAP         143     TLS

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try deleting the entries in the Mail Shield, Expert Settings, SSL Accounts, reboot and avast should recreate them. Though with no StartTLS, SSL or TLS in the tbird email accounts and the settings in avast it should work, what is the full text of the error message when sending ?

Unfortunately I don't use thunderbird, so I can't be much practical help.

only one entry is correct in Avast ssl accounts section >>> SMTP 465 SSL (works with 587 TLS too if that's gmail). The three other entries are wrong and can't work: should be IMAP/993/SSL and SMTP 587 TLS (525 doesn't exist).

now you should give us your settings in Thunderbird and your email provider, Gmail or else...
