Does free license still cover more than one computer?
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:34:42 AM »
I'm wondering if the license for the new version of Avast can still be used for three home computers.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

Pretty sure the Avast! free is a 1time use license, its the paid versions that can be used up to 3 times.

@ Libra

Your signature indicates that you have 2 PC's with Avast.  If you are having an issue with a paid license, go to the Avast License Center http://www.avast.com/community-and-support.  You can also use this site for the free license as well or other license issues.

In addition, you may want to consider updating your 4.0+ build of Avast to the current build on your XP machine at some point.

Hi Libra, from your statement, you may have 3 "home" computers, so actually you need 3 free license. Since one email entitle to one free license, you need 3 free email.  :)

Hi Libra

Are you asking if a newly-generated avast! 4.8-style license string
e.g.
---------- cut here ----------
W00987654H9876A9846-00XYZ17X
---------- cut here ----------
can be used on more than one copy of avast! 5 Free, as it could for avast! 4.8 Home?

I think it should be okay but I actually don't know. :-[ 'cause I've never had to try.
It's so easy to register a new install from within the program that I've never bothered.

Clarify your question if you need to.

Libra, why haven't you updated to avast 5?
The free license could be used in more than one computer. But it's easier to register online...
Click on Maintenance, than Registration for online registering.
1) Open Avast.
2) Click on "Maintenance" then "Registration".
3) Fill out the form for your license key and click "Submit".

If it fails (or you're in an offline computer), try offline registration.
Fill the form here ( http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php ) and enter (copy & paste) the serial number you've recieved by email.

The single Professional license file is valid for one computer only.
The best things in life are free.

Thank you everyone for your replies.  I had difficulty getting a registration key from within the program - it sent me somewhere to purchase Avast.

I've been thinking about upgrading Avast in my XP computer, but I just read about a problem with Avast 5.0.545 and System Restore.  I think I'll hold off until that problem is resolved.
