What is 5.0.545.100524
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:39:36 PM »
I have free Avast 5.0.545

When I click on the Update Program button, it says the program is up to date (no updates).

But I see on CNet that there is a new version 5.0.545.100524.

Does anyone know anything about it?

PLUS

Where can I find release notes of the various editions/versions?

TIA

The last part of the number is related, as far I know, to the virus definition database only: 24th of May 2010.
You have the latest version. The virus definitions could be updated though ;)

Hi yarok,

I think I have seen this before...IIRC the last six numbers refer to the date of the virus definitions. (it is also the format that is used in avast!

That would be the cause of the discrepancy...

By release notes, what do you mean? Something like a changelog?
I am not sure that there is one...(yet?)

Until Alwil put something on the website ( http://www.avast.com ), you can read what Vlk said in the 5.0.545-thread:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=59408.0

Most notable improvements include:

•   Solved a bug related to submission of false positives
•   Improvements in the Behavior Shield (realtime antirootkit part)
•   Sandbox: many functional, stability and performance improvements
•   Firewall: VPN compatibility fixes (should now work even in Public zone etc)
•   Firewall: solved an issue related to hang and/or crash of the afwServ.exe process
•   Finally works with major screen readers (avast is now blind-friendly)
•   Compatibility improvements in the Web Shield
•   Various fixes in the Outlook antispam add-in
•   Improved detection of droppers
•   Setup program of the Pro AV now also accepts v4.x license keys
•   Right-to-left support
•   Added Croatian and Arabic language packs

Thank you
Vlk
