internet sub-net slowdown

avast! Internet Security (5.0.545) on a Win XP 64bit is slowing down my sub-net internet connection for all XP OS's (to an absolute standstill), whereas Win7 has no problem behind it ?!?

Any suggestions are very welcome - Thanks!

Difficult to say without further information... other security programs, old antivirus (before avast), etc. etc.
