I ditched Norton. It is too aggressive. It was blocking the entire Brothersoft website and clicking the detailed report was linking to the Brothersoft site. Nice catch-22 there. Back to old reliable OpenDNS.

NortonDNS no longer blocks Brothersoft website.

I'm trying out NortonDNS since the free OpenDNS no longer blocks malware sites, just phishing.
<snip>

I can't remember the free OpenDNS ever having blocked malware sites, only phishing sites.

Personally that is what the web and network shields are for.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

agree, web + network shield + Google safe browsing (+NS and ABP in FF) are more than enough. OpenDNS might still be useful to filter for the kids etc...otherwise, I don't see the need.

It won't hurt to have a DNS & avast! both blocking malware sites.

When one doesn't have a detection, the other might. ;)

I often use Google DNS 'cause the numbers are easy to remember. :-[

Well, DNS works like in the cloud tech, it doesn't require updates as you have to inquiry it for each site anyway. Unlike network shield which for now requires regular updates. So DNS certainly has the edge here.

I gave up on NortonDNS.  It downloads software (even if I don't use the configuration

utility) & uses system resources. :(

It wont allow Gmail phone service on XP sp3, but allows Gmail phone service on

Win 7. ???

Back to good ol' OpenDNS. :)

Sometimes I can't leave well enough alone, I went and tried Clear Cloud.

It blocked Gmail phone's voice plug-in. :(

I'm back with good ol' OpenDNS. :)

I'm staying with what's in my signature,

at least until curiosity gets the best of me. ::)
