Please can someone advise. I have had avast for 2 years, happily. Today I was asked to download new version as my time had expired. These are the free versions.I have since found I am unable to send or receive emails. I therefore have had to disable avast to do this.
Any advice ?
best wishes Annie

First you shouldn't have to disable avast to do that, just the Mail Shield.
What errors are you getting when you send or receive with avast/Mail Shield enabled ?
What is your Email program ?
Are you using SSL/TLS for your email collection/sending ?
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and try to collect your email again, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

Thank you for your reply. I have now disabled the 'outgoing mail' checking by unchecking the box and then enabled the mail shield. This has allowed mail to be sent and received.
I dont think I use SSL...(encryption ?) , mail client is Outlook Express and I use standard windows firewall.
As a test I re-enabled the outgoing mail checking and the same fault re-occurred.
best wishes

Open the avastUI, Real-Time Shields, Mail Shield Expert Settings, SSL Accounts section and check that the Encryption setting for the SMTP account is set to None, see image.
