I for one never had a problem with Vista (especially after sp-1). The last BSOD I had was on XP. Granted, Windows 7 is much faster and lighter, But most of the bad press Vista received was FUD.

Well I'm jumping into Window 7 Pro very soon, I have to make sure that my current computer hardware can handle this version that I don't have to spend more money on hardware upgrade.

no...okay, 2 GB is enough to run the OS itself, but you need more for additional apps. My RAM use here is about 1.5GB when the system is idle. 3 GB of present physical memory is fine.

Yeah the new XP Mode in the Pro version is what I am missing I still love all my software

@Logos it okay I've just checked my motherboard and I can buy another extra 2GB of DDR RAM comes to a total of 4GB or though I could get 8GB if I wanted too.

4GB is quite adequate on my Windows 7 system and I have not needed XP Mode as everything I have works fine.

In order to use more than 3GB RAM you need at least Windows 7 64bit.

Right now my Windows 7 system is running with 36% RAM utilized.

I have 4Gb but as my system is 32bits, I can only use 3Gb effectively.
I use XP Mode for testing purposes

Sure not, as I often work on W7 machines and didn't find anything I would miss on XP...!!

The thing that you will notice about 7 is that it uses much more RAM, but this is intentional as it is the fastest memory on your system.  So why swap to disk and leave most of the RAM unused ? That was the rationale behind the utilisation of RAM, hence 7 is a great deal faster than a comparable XP/Vista system . With 3Gb RAM on a 64bit system it just flies.  I can play a game, run Itunes, defrag the drive and keep 6 web browser windows open with no slowdown at all
