Virus detected on my Computer
« on: July 21, 2004, 07:47:29 PM »
The following virus warning just popped up but I believe it's a false positive HELP

Virus has been detected!
File Name: loaderadv1.jar-29d31695-52b318de.zip
FileID: 9
Virus Description: JS:ClassLoader-5

It's in the following Folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Norbert  Gostischa\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\
Please advise if that's a false positive so that I know if I can restore it.

Hello Bob, I'm not sure, but if it's in a cache folder, it should be safe to delete it isnt it?
Or are you just curious IF it's a virus ?

Fast ???

I need to know because it's in the Sun Java Directory? if it's an actual virus or if it's a false positive and has to be restored so my java will work.

Hi Bob,

As Fast said, don't worry about saving it if it's in the cache folders -- they're exactly what they sound like, just cached copies of applets to save loading time next time you use them.

Since an applet typically has quite a few individual audio and graphics files associated with it, your best bet is simply to open the Java Control Panel and empty the cache.

Having done that, worst-case scenerio is simply that it was a false positive and the applet will have to be loaded from scratch again next time.  But that doesn't take forever, even on my dialup -- it's not like you have to replace any part of Java itself.

Best,
Mike

Thanks all for your help.
Did a search in Google said that only Avast and Panda said that it's a virus all others came up as clean.

Hi bob,

"loaderadv" really doesn't sound like something you want or need on the PC,
as it probably loads advertisements ->AdWare or worse

Onlinescans (with avast paused) might confirm this:
VGREP

 ;)

False positive: a clean file or script that is detected as being a virus or a worm, ie, it's not a virus, it's not a positive test but a false positive test.  ;)
