I too would suggest this is overkill, avast being a resident scanner when it starts (relatively early in the windows boot), it will be be scanning files that are to be loaded/run, etc. After that being a resident/on-access antivirus scanner executable and certain other (targeted) files that are run are first scanned and only if clear are they allowed to run.
Other than that you could effectively have an infected file on your system, but if it isn't run (no registry key or other file attempting to start it) then it is inert and no immediate risk.
So you can do a periodic scheduled scan at times when it is more convenient, daily I would say is also a bit of overkill, weekly fine for a Quick scan, monthly for Full scan, etc. is more like it. With a resident/on-access scanner the on-demand scans are depreciated. But it is your system and obviously your choice but what you are asking for isn't available within avast.
