Avast Pro Scan Time Question?
« on: June 26, 2010, 01:49:34 AM »
Just thought I'd ask a question about scan times as this makes no sense to me.  I have run a full scan on my sons laptop and my laptop.  His is a single core Athlon 64 with 2 gigs ram and a 160 GB 5200rpm HD.  Mine is a Turion 2.2GHz dual core with 4 gigs ram and a 7200 rpm 320GB HD.  I have about 90 Gigs used on the HD where he has about 60 Gigs used.  His complete scan takes about 21 minutes where mine take about 40 minutes when I have very little resources used at about 19% processor during a full scan and about 42% memory during a full scan.  I have a faster processor, faster HD, double the memory, both running Win 7 64bit.  I don't understand why my scan would take double the time to do?  Any ideas?

Maybe because you have more programs/files installed...?? ;)
30 Gbs make still a difference...

Different scanning settings.
Other programs running in background. Services, etc.
Different kind of files and archives.
And so on.
