Thanks a lot.

Really good service! I am no expert at malware but I want to help all anti viruses especially Avast because it's free by sending them samples!

If you like to help really you can also scan the sample with virus total so every AV vendor will get a copy from the "virus".

But Virustotal says it's clean (though I suspect something is wrong - do they still get a sample)

Also will I get a response if it was clean or infected? It's been 2-3 weeks now with no response.

Any other ideas who I can send it to to check (for free)?

Please Go to PROFILE then Modify Profile then Forum Profile Information then update your Signature: with information like my signature as this helps the helpers offer pertinent advice like Asyn has in his signature.

But Virustotal says it's clean (though I suspect something is wrong - do they still get a sample)

It would only be sent to those that didn't dtecte it assuming there were a number of other scanners that did detect it.

Also will I get a response if it was clean or infected? It's been 2-3 weeks now with no response.

You will not normally get a response unless they require more information, you can periodically scan it within the chest (assuming you added it to the chest) and see if it is subsequently detected. Given the fact that no other scanners detect it on VT that is probably unlikely.

Any other ideas who I can send it to to check (for free)?

How did you send it to avast, email or from the chest ?

- Anubis: Analyzing Unknown Binaries (.exe file), is another scanning tool that is useful, Anubis: Analyzing Unknown Binaries. Post a link to the results page.
