Avast Free Praise
« on: June 30, 2010, 01:27:52 PM »
I'm a licensed NOD32 user, but came back here due to a few 'niggles' with the aforementioned...

I'm running the latest build of Avast (Free) on Win7 (32 Bit), browser is FF (I.E removed) + Thunderbird (with Avast managing the SSL accounts). I have to say, on footprint, speed / performance, effectiveness (running a few 'tests' with Eicar, Spycar etc... and checking out the 'official' reports), plus general usability & configurability - I'm extremely impressed. And this is a free product! Thanks!

(Feel free to publish my comments - if you so wish, minus the mention of 'the competition'!)

Thanks. Just one question. Are updates to the Pro version really faster (as advertised)? They seem good to me (I auto check every hour).

The minimum intervals currently are like this:

Free AV: 120 minutes ( = 2 hours) (it does not "work" with lesser time periods, even you set so).
Pro AV, IS: 15 minutes

2 hours is good enough for me (for most @ home I suspect...)

Thanks for the clarification.
