WIN 2K Shutdown hangs with Avast 5

This problem began after installing Avast 5.  The computer refuses to shutdown automatically when going through the usual end of day, START | SHUTDOWN [or RESTART] routine.  Is there a way to fix this problem?

Hmmm... Don't remember of this problem. I saw some Windows 2k machines running avast 5 without problem last week.
Are you using the latest 5.0.590 version?
Any other security program that could interfere?
Which was your old antivirus before avast?

Thanks for the reply!  Actually that Win2K machine has always had Avast installed [for several years] and yes, I am using the latest version.  The problem began with Avast 5. Up to that point, have had no problems whatsoever on shutdown. Avast 5 was the only change to the machine, and precisely when the problem began. Very frustrating.

The latest version is 5.0.594 now. Please update to it.

Yes, I am using the latest version is 5.0.594 of Avast, and yes, I did the rollup a few years ago.
Thanks for your suggestions, but still have the problem on shutdown...sigh....

No, sorry...waiting does nothing...in fact, I have waited the entire night for something to happen, and it never does. The only way to have the computer shutdown normally is to completely uninstall Avast 5 which I would not like to do for obvious reasons...anyone else have a suggestion?

Ok, which other security related programs are installed..??
Also, it could be that your BIOS needs to be updated...

RobbLL,

There is one more thing you could try http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/uphclean.exe.html to see if this resolves your problem.  Some of had positive results with it, but I personally have not used it.  In your case, it might be worth a try.
