Yes, several times.

Both.

Anyway, after checking and unchecking a number of items it's finally behaving like the previous version. 

I read in another post about including a "user settings" utility in the next release and I hope Alwil will do this as it will simplify any program update.

So, it's working and I'm happy!

By the by, is there a place to write to Alwil to suggest a "User Settings" .ini file or something so I don't have to go through this again with the next program update? I know I'm going to lose the paper it's written on now.

avast5.ini and the other shield ini files generally already contain the default and users settings, they aren't contained in one single location/file as in the old avast4.ini file. So it is possibly to save these files periodically.
