icon animation
« on: July 10, 2010, 10:22:57 PM »
I am using Avast 5 Pro together with Windows 7 Home Premium and SeaMonkey. Despite ticking "Animate the icon when scanning", it does not. I never had this problem with Avast 4 and Windows XP. Any ideas please?>

It's a new install and I have been using Avast for about 5 years. It was the only anti virus that I have had on this computer, purchased in February, so I am mystified.

Shields are up and running. Scan is working fine, running on schedule once a week, but the only way I can confirm it is to open Avast. Even hovering over the icon doesn't tell me. Everything seems to be working fine, just a bit annoying that I don't get any visual indication from the task bar.

So, you're just talking about the sheduled scanning..?
Or does it never spin at all..?

Never spins. Just tried a manual scan with same result. All I ever get, manual, scheduled or not scanning, if I hover over the icon it says "avast! Antivirus: Your system is secured"

Whilst I don't believe this would have an impact, do you happen to have the avast Settings set to silent/gaming mode ?

Sorry, it was a bit of clutching at straws as there aren't many things to suggest relating to the try icon animation.

You mentioned files are being scanned, is this where you are checking that from the avastUI, Real-Time Shields, File System Shield, the shield traffic and Files scanned/infected:, Last file scanned: values should give an indication.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Do you have any windows themes, etc. that might have any impact on tray icons, etc. ?

Well, at my icon works that revolve only work shields - that is scanning the files, opening web pages and other features real-time protection. When the scanning system (complete, optional ...) the icon does not spin at all and you really do not know that the test runs. It would not be bad to be an icon for running the test had a different shade of color, or at least to have some balloon info ... Sorry for bad English

David, I do a full system scan and never have any infected files. I know that a scan has occurred because I open Avast during the scheduled time or sometimes I miss the time and do a manual scan. Tried a repair and it made no difference.
Jan, I think that you are saying your icon revolves while browsing. Mine does that, but only one rotation about 10 seconds apart.

the icon is not supposed to spin during a scan, scheduled or triggered manually, in Avast 5. This is just not implemented. Guys, you're suggesting a repair ??? there's nothing to repair, it's like that in V5 since the beginning. The icon spins only with real time shields ;D
