avast is a very configurable AV and if you don't want a specific function/shield to run you either don't have to install it (in a custom install) or uncheck that option later if it proves to to reduce performance.

thanks for response - that seems to answer my question.
I may do my own benchmarking however...I may try the pro trial version and see what impact it has on system performance in comparison to the one I am using at the moment.

But the SBS suite looks like the option that I will push to purchase...

It is nonsense. Version 5 has a lot of performance improvements over version 4.8. This was noticed even in beta tests.
Please, post the links to these threads. (Of course, will be always a problem here and there...).

Are you saying that the pro version users the same amount of memory as the home version??
Yes.

I thought the Pro version has a bigger bite on local resources.
Be reasonable: why would anyone pay for a worse thing?
