Hello

Problem is I cant get to Start, Windows dose'nt load, the Blue screen Stop advise apears before windows finishes loading and I can't boot into safe mode either. In order to effect any action I need to acces the command prompt before the access point to Windows or Safe Mode start.

Regarding the formating of the machine, will I be able to save any of my photo files?

Sorry I'm all out of ideas Memphis T. You will most likely need to use the install disk to Repair or Re-install Windows.

With Repair, yr photo files will be saved.
With reformat an re-install you will need to first access yr computer through an external drive and copy out the files you want.
If you cannot do this, you may need to take into a shop to have done.

Hello Forum Contributors

I hate to give up and admit defeat though now I may have to, but one last chance is their any way I can get into safe mode through the specific command menu I can access through F8 on start up.

RUN WINDOWS IN SAFE MODE,FULL SCAN WITH AVAST ,IT WILL DETECT THIS ********* VIRUS,CHOOSE MOVE TO CHEST,SCAN WITH CCLEANER,YOU ARE FREE

A few pointers:
1. Loose the fixation with ALL CAPS it is considered shouting.
2. You also have another fixation with safe mode scans with avast being a panacea, well it isn't the avast boot-time scan is better.
3. Read what the poster says before answering, "I can't boot into safe mode either."
4. When posting images have some consideration for those on dial-up and don't post full screen massive images, just any cropped part relevant to demonstrate your point.
5. You just don't get it the win32:malware-gen detection can be for a whole host of different things and any single action is unlikely to resolve every occurrence.
6. Moderate your language as this forum is available to all children included.

So no I don't agree, you can't consider all win32:malware-gen detections as easy. For the most part avast is able to deal with win32:malware-gen detections right away, but there is likely to be other underlying issues with some of them.

You really have to ask, trying to give out advice when you aren't up to it. This is a support forum and we have to exercise care as the advice you give could seriously effect a users system.

By your own admission in another topic "did i say that i am good at pc?nop" so as someone once said 'best to let people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and confirm it.'

Hi All
It looks as though Im at the point of no return and a rebuild is on the cards, I just hope my PC Tech can save my photo's, that said I have never encountered a virus like this before and have always managed to effect repairs, what im afraid of going forward is picking up a virus like this again. I use the net a lot and I do download things from time to time, I don't like to feel restricted as to where I can go but I don't want another episode like this to re-accure if I can help it!.

If I can pose a question to all.

What would be your Top Ten tips to acheiving virus security that any Surfer should adhear to? What do you do? Sorry thats two questions!

I am a subsribing Avast user but this is obviously not enough.

I look forward to your input, and once again Thankyou for all your help

Have you gone for a reformat yet ?  If not we can work outside of windows to try and see the error, or at least back up all your dats

Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

File details OTLPENet.exe
Bytes=126,850,486
MB=120.9
MD5=8A7C5BA1C92552ADDCC5E468D0AA069A

  • Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
  • Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
  • Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn  to burn the file to CD

  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads  :)
  • Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • Select the Windows folder of the infected drive if it asks for a location
  • When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
  • When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
  • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start.
  • Drag and drop this attached scan.txt into the Custom scans and fixes box
  • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
  • When finished, the file will be saved  in drive C:\OTL.txt
  • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system.
  • Right click the file and select send to : select the USB drive.
  • Confirm that it has copied to the USB drive by selecting it
  • You can backup any files that you wish from this OS
  • Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply.
