Sounds problems after update to 5.05.507
« on: April 30, 2010, 09:44:47 AM »
Hi, in Avast version 5.05.507 completely disappeared Windows System sound (startup, close program, shutdown…) through external sound card Audigy2, sounds only on-board beeper.

But if check the box - Settings/Troubleshooting/Load Avast services only after other system services, sound card starts to work again

My configuration: Avast Antivirus+ Comodo Firewall+ Win XP Pro Sp3 +Audigy 2+Realtek on-board codec

SJ, with best regards!

I'm having the same problem....almost.
The only computer sound effected is....I get a motherboard beep instead of a normal Windows Event sound when closing down Outlook Express.

Yes, it works that way.
The sounds are only configurable by the avast interface (settings) on avast 5.

So you are trying to tell me that Avast takes over Windows event sounds for programs
OTHER than Avast?...like Outlook Express?

No. I just say that avast manages its own sounds and do not use the Windows control.
Other programs are managed by Windows.
This was done because Windows 7 sounds scheme made it theme dependent and not user dependent (as far I could understand). So, other products could have facing the same problem when the theme is changed.

My post clearly stated:
"I get a motherboard beep instead of a normal Windows Event sound when closing down Outlook Express."
...after Avast updated from V4 to V5.

I have since manually uninstalled and reinstalled Avast and the Outlook Express sounds are back to normal.
Something went wrong with the automatic update/upgrade from V4 to V5.
