Help! AVAST hosed my scripting
« on: July 25, 2004, 05:32:23 PM »
I have windows xp home.  Since installing avast my media player, file search, windows explorer, and who know what else is not working...I get the ahascr.dll error.  Please send concise instructions for fixing this.  The ones I see posted here are very poor directions.

There are several threads on this forum that tell you how to solve it and the solutions are very well explained. Here is one of them:

Well call me stupid but I've read those threads and they refer to other threads.  Please start from scratch and give me the fix.  Thank you for the reply.

You need to provide more details before we can give more specific help, like:

Have you tried as Vlk explained in that thread?
What version of Avast are you using?
What os?
What have you already tried?

For people who don't realize that a thread/topic here can have several pages:

If you have avast Pro, it's probably some problem in the Script Blocker installation. ...

 Try to run

regsvr32 /u <avast-path>ahascr.dll

This will unregister the script blocker and all scripts should be OK.
Now, you can try to re-enable the Script Blocker by issuing the command

regsvr32 <avast-path>ahascr.dll

Thanks
Vlk
