[Resolved] Full update
« on: July 17, 2010, 02:50:27 PM »
Hi,

Today, I closed my internet without noticing that Avast is trying to update.
So after a while a red note showed up signalling a fatal error has occured.

I tried to repair it via Control Panel, I got a note:

"Error processing packages
Please use full update."

My actual Avast is:
Build: Sep2009 (4.8.1368)
Xtreme Toolkit version 1.9.4.0
Using ActiveSkin version 4.2.7.3

VPS File version: 100716-1
Updates expiration: Tuesday, January 01, 2013 12:00:00 AM

Would someone tell me what are the steps in my case to redo a full update.

Thank you.

Why didn't you upgrade from 4.8 to version 5 yet?
Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP, Vista, 7?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

May I add how one could avoid such a situation.

For example, if one tries to close his internet connection while avast setup is active during a critical process, is it possible for Avast to disable the closing command till it finishes all its necessary tasks?
Better if it displays a note that Avast will do the closing automatically. This would notify the user not to be in a hurry to turn off his PC.

When I tried to repair it via "Control Panel... etc", I got a note:

"Error processing packages
Please use full update."

When I got the new key I was running Avast 4.8 and avast didn't ask me to update to version 5  :)

Do you mean I can full update by :

Updating -> Program Update

I meant by asking about the steps for a full update, if I should:

1- Uninstall Avast first,
2- re-use version 4.8 or better download version 5 to install it

I am confused with the word 'update' in the expression 'full update'... Does it mean, full install?

Just to be fair, I also tried:

Updating -> Program Update

And now Avast has restored its normal state.
