Problem with the firewall setting

Hello , I'm new to this forum and using the Avast anti-virus . I'm having a problem with the firewall setting .  My problem is I can't turn it on

  Everytime I try displays a message that says : firewall can not be found .

Is there any solution to this ?

Have You Tried avast repair?

What antivirus / firewall did you use before avast?
Did you remove it before installing avast?
Did You use a removal tool to clear any leftover files that may conflict?

I had a Norton trial before I had Avast . I  have a removal tool but its at least 3 years old . Will it still  work or do I need a new one ?

Check out this site - Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.
