bug?
« on: July 26, 2004, 09:36:29 PM »
I've created a task which scans my entire hard-disk:
    scan all files
    recognise types by content
    ignore targeting
    packers: all
    result types: all
In a couple of sub-directories, I have Word-documents and Zip-files which are password-protected (by Word and Zip respectively).

When I run the task manually, Avast registers errors that it is unable to scan the doc and zip files because they are password-protected. So far, so good.

However, when I schedule the task, it runs on time, but doesn't report any problems with the password protected files, as I believe it should.

Why the difference between manual and scheduled? Is this a  bug, for example because the scheduler is using a different account with different rights, or because it has no console?

regards,
Scott.

Hello sowen,

my reply is not related to your question from original post, but I just wanna let you know that we all agreed that largest avatar in these forums shouldn't exceed 100x100 pixels. You avatar is a way, way too big (178x182 pixels), and it "weights" more than 30 kb in phisical size. Just try to imagine, we know that there is more than 4000 registered users in these forums, and it will be much more with the time... and if everyone upload so large avatars, it would unnecessary flood the server... we don't want that, so we agreed to use 100x100 or smaller avatars.

Here is example of your current avatar, but with proper size (it's 100x100 pixels, and it's smaller than 5kb in phisical size), you are free to use it... if you don't like it, you can upload whatever you want, but make it 100x100 or smaller than that, please...

(IMAGE REMOVED, no need to be here 'cause no one wants to use it ???)

Cheers !

After the task has run, did you check the log file? Is there something mentioning about skipped files or files that couldn't be scanned? If you run a task and it doesn't report directly on the screen about not being able to scan certain files, it is imo not a bug. But if it also doesn't mention it in a log file, I think there should be done something about it.

"Flood the server"?
I didn't upload anything: if you check the page-source, you'll see the image is loaded each time from my server, not the forum's.

It is the Avast server that request your image from your server and then forward it to the user viewing your msg/thread. That will generate unneeded data traffic. At least I think that is how it works. Besides that, I (and many others) don't like a huge avatar with just a small amount of lines next to it. No offense ment, but please make it smaller.

Regarding the errors: the session results in Avast Enhanced view show errors about the password-protected files when I run the task manually, but it does NOT show these errors when it runs in a schedule.

Craftec:
Your off-topic post, the flag-image in your signature, as well as the tome about your server, really do clog up this forum. And the image you attached actually *does* reside on the forum's server.

Artras:
No, it does not work like that. The forum server does nothing with the image. It sends the HTML <img> tag with a reference to the image on my server, and your browser picks it up. "Flood the server" is just nonsense.

In addition, a private message would have been preferred over clogging up the topic with OFF-TOPIC info.

I will reduce the image dimensions for the sake of page-layout. Your image is also larger than 100pixels in one dimension. Oh, oh. ;)

Please, let's keep ON TOPIC.

Why are you so touchy ? Ha ? Well my friend there is no room for flamming in these forums... or you maybe think that no one should say anything to anyone ? Maybe you think you're untouchable or something ? Then anybody would post 600x600 pixels large avatars if there are no rules set...

First of all, it's not off-topic post... it was my reply to your post and nothing in these forums is off-topic. However it is off-topic if you don't play by the forum rules... your avatar was off-size in the first place ;)

No matter is it flooding the server or not, but for sure it's not good for showing properly your posts in these forums. Just try to think of those who still use 640x480 pixel resolution... everything would be shifted to the right... and I'm assuring you that there are still some people who can't afford better or larger monitors...

So, instead of being so agressive (I can see that from the fact that I spent my spare time as my good will to resize that avatar for you with your nickname inside, and you didn't want to use it... it was easier for you to go and resize everything from the scratch... no problem, anyway, no one asked me to make one for you... it will be good lesson for future reference. I made so many avatars in these forums for my friends and they all are very happy 'cause I helped them... well, it looks like this is not case with you.)... instead of that, calm down and try to be of some help in here, not to flame without any reason. Everybody will see from my post that I just informed you what forum regulars and other forum members have decided...

Anyway, if you must show your presence in here in such a huge way, do it by trying to help to some new forum members, everyone will appreciate it, not by posting 3 miles big avatar...  ;)

And btw, my avatar is not unproportional, I made them, so for your information, it's exactly 100x100 pixels... maybe the one I resized for you is 100x101 pixels large, but dont act like child... 100x101 comparing to your almost 200x200 pixels  ??? Common...

Regarding those little flags, you are totally wrong... in addition to add those flags in signatures, only possible way to do that is to put an inside link for outside image. Image is on my server FYI, so it can't flood anything...  ;)

I have no desire for this to deteriate into anything other than people helping others.

We have to have some rules in the forums and one is the max size of avtars (101X100) otherwise the width of text element of the posts is also lessened.

With regards to the KB size, yes there is an overhead, people have to download it, over dial-up, etc. and it is in every post (I know it should be cached after first download).

This difference has I feel already had an effect, a lack of answers to your question.

Lets not forget why we are here and the comment about size and offer of an alternative avtar (he didn't have to make it) was hardly malicious or ment in a bad way.

Craftec, you're what is known as a forum terrorist. You hijack a good forum, and make it useless with your off-topic blather.

Self-important, and self-elevated to the position of forum police on a forum which is not even yours.

Haha... in your dreams... ask other what they think of me. I never acted as this forum is mine, 'cause it's not my intention to do that. I'm just around here trying to be of service and some help to new users... Police ? No way... I didn't try to forbid something to you, I just informed you... reread my first reply again. I think I already made so many friendships in here... If they have same opinion as you (can't call you my friend, sorry, not yet), I'll appologize to you for I don't know why...

Oh my God, I haven't met so arrogant human being as you are in my whole life.

At least I made something useful for avast!... I hope... my work speaks for itself, I don't have to promote it...

No, I'm not terrorist. And who gives you the right to call people those names ?

And btw, you don't know anything about my life, so please don't use those words you don't even know the meaning... unbelievable !

Man with 40 and something behind himself should speak more wisely... ;) Calling someone terrorist just because he informed you about your mistake (in the first place) is immature.

No other word for you... don't wanna spend my precious time...

Complete nonsense, he only asked you to resize your avatar and then defended himself when you tried to put him down.
As far as im concerned you were Prejudice towards him, and i hate that with a passion, you should never judge someone before you know them.

Thanks my friend, I'm always trying to help others... I mean, that's the way everyone should treat anyone. We have to help each other in these forums and not to flame and curse...

"He" works from the shaddow, I can see that... he hates me from his guts, but he wasn't so brave to tell that directly... he just waited for oportunity like this...

Most weird thing is... I don't hate him... and that's what makes him even more frustrated... I don't know why, though...  ;)

Sowen,
Sasha has contributed much to avast. He has made many wonderful skins, He has helped many people here on the forum. So to call him a terrorist is totally out of line!

You have not been around long enough to make that kind of judgement, and, if you had been, you would be wrong. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, it is cowardly and childish to make such statements in a public forum.

Your words are not the act of a gentleman and I believe you owe Sasha an apology.
Are you man enough to do it??

Hey Sowen,
It's radicalb21. I'm sorry but I have to side with the rest of my forum brothers & friends when I say that avatar was way to big to begin with.  I run a forum and it is a pain when people like you cause slow page loads due to the size of your avatar. Also for what you said about Craftec was not right. When you called him a forum terrorist I believe you were talking about yourself. Now lets get back on topic. Enough said.
