Hi!

I got today my new computer and install Avast on it (latest version: 5.0.594). I'm using Windows 7 64bit.
The software tells me the database is out of date - screenshot:http://i25.tinypic.com/29x7ypy.png. Also Windows tells me that I have to update Avast.
When I click "Update engine and virus definitions" it says that I have the latest DB - screenshot:http://i28.tinypic.com/5xiexf.png.

I downloaded "avast! 5 VPS update" from http://www.avast.com/download-update and it says that the VPS is up to date.
My computer's clock is set right (maybe I installed Avast before I set the clock, but now it's set). I also restart my computer.

What's the problem?
Thanks!  :)
Itay.

I had a problem like that on the Vista machine here. Check in your installed programs list and make sure you have the Microsoft C++ 2008 redistributable listed there. It is required for Avast! to function correctly. The installer is supposed to give it to you but sometimes it doesn't work right. The 2005 package is not sufficient, you need the 2008 one.

It seems that for 64bit I have the 2005 version and for 32bit I have the 2008 version: http://i31.tinypic.com/ay3lec.png
I downloaded the 2008 for 64bit and now it seems that I have both versions: http://i27.tinypic.com/wgz2na.png

Shall I uninstall the 2005 version for 64bit? (2 items)

Thanks,
Itay.

You shouldn't need the 2005 version for a 64-bit.  Try a cold boot to your machine.  However if you find that your PC date/time is wrong on boot up, restart it in Safe Mode and correct the date/time, then restart the machine in normal mode and see if Avast will update itself on it's own.  If not try a manual update under Maintanance.

What version of Avast are you using (Free, Pro, AIS)?

What other security software do you have on your machine?

Under the Avast GUI > Settings > Updates ...how do you have this set and how do you connect to the Internet?

I would keep both versions because sometimes programs that are written using a certain version will only work right with that version. You may have another program installed that needs the 2005 package.

Agree...it may have been part of an MS Update, but we don't know, so better to be on the safe side.

Hi!

Thank you all for the responses.

SafeSurf, I'm using the free version, I have no other security software on my computer (maybe there are softwares which are windows 7 compunents, but nothing else since I got this computer yesterday and I install almost nothing on it), my update settings are: http://i26.tinypic.com/33pft07.png

Now the engine and the virus definitions are up to date (100722) and everything seems to be fine with the program itself, and also with the windows requests.

Thank you again very much!
Hope everything will keep working,
Itay.
