Faulting application avastui.exe, version 5.1.889.0
« on: January 25, 2011, 06:13:21 PM »
I just installed Avast Free and performed a full scan. As soon as the scan was complete, I had "Error Reporting - Application Error" on screen. Click to send to Microsoft. Avast said it found 2 infections and click to reboot and run boot time scan. I clicked "Send error report to Microsoft" the error details sent, then Avast totally shut down. The computer was not froze, but it did not reboot until I rebooted it. The 2 infected files were traces of a previously removed malware that were now located in system restore. MBAM scan was performed prior, there are no current malware or rootkits.

Event viewer recorded 2 errors:
Event ID 1000:
Faulting application avastui.exe, version 5.1.889.0, faulting module avastui.exe, version 5.1.889.0, fault address 0x001fb0cf.

Event ID 1001:
Fault bucket -2028323190.

Computer details:
Compaq Presario V5115US Laptop. WinXP Home SP3 - AMD Turion 64 Mobile 1.8Ghz - 1 Gig Ram - ATI graphics

Forgot to mention that before installing avast, I used AVG removal tool from safe mode to remove AVG 8.5. Also installed MBAM pro and Spyware blaster 4.3., no other security software.

Hi Mike,

Try a repair of avast first and see if that helps.

To do a repair of avast :

Control panel > Add/remove programs > click once on avast to select it > click on Change/Remove > scroll down the left pane and click on repair > click OK> follow directions

After a reboot Avast was working again. Computer is down the road already. I was just trying to alert Avast that the error happened.

I hope these reports are helpful to the improvement of the code. Should I report this anywhere else?

PS it is the second computer this happened on.
