George Yves, didn't mention a path, that is from the old first post from July 2010, since his question was related he revived the topic.

Yes, but then why to post in this old topic?

In any case, the general instructions are still valid so to "clean" the folders.

At last I got some data to play with.

First, user ivanovich says he has Win7 Start. He installed AIS 6.0.1289 on Oct 11, 2011 and updated it to 6.0.1367 on Nov 29, 2011. This user posted a lot of attached screenshots but the setup folder can be viewed only in three of them: here, here and here.

Second, user About Blank shows his Avast version in his signature and his screenshot of the setup folder in the attachment.

Well I would say About Blank as an AIS user is probably seeing what is normal as there are three sandbox relater entries, ais_snz?-?.vpx. He is also going to have the firewall and anti-spam elements also.

It looks similar for ivanovich as he too is using AIS.

OT: User ivanovich seems not to be an experienced one. He has just posted the following text (the translation is mine - GY):
Quote
An interesting fact!!! I limited logs for 7 days, temporary logs - for 1 day. The max size of a log is 500Kb now. And the total size of Avast has been reduced to 330Mb from the previous 399Мb!!!! The Setup folder has been reduced from 175Мb to 172Мb. The defs folder has been reduced to 66Мb from 132Мb. Totally I reduced my Avast up to 69Мb!!! Who can explain this fact ???

And he wrote it after I had asked him to limit the logs!

Unfortunately it seems that those how go delving deep into logs and folder size, etc. often haven't the knowledge to understand what it is telling them.

I have restricted my log sizes, etc. but for me that doesn't make a great difference and I tend to keep my nose out of the logs and folders, unless I have a problem that I'm investigating.

Normally that is when I look for reference purposes (like this topic), other than that I let avast take care of itself.

Saving a whole 69MB is a bit of a joke in these days of monster hard disks. If your system is really that short on space that 69MB makes a difference you need to get a bigger drive or take a serious look at what you have installed, is it absolutely essential.

Hopefully he won't take a look in the defs folder as that fluctuates by 66MB a pop as a new defs folder is created and the old one subsequently removed during avast housekeeping..

I know that a lot of Avast! experienced users restrict log size but, generally speaking, I've never seen what's the point (in terms of performance, not privacy or similar stuff if applicable) in changing the default maximum size of each log. I have a six year old machine, I use Avast! in conjunction with a HIPS software on Win XP and my system has no issue managing a 4096KB size log.

I understand that the size of 170 Mb is normal for Setup folder in AIS, isn't it?

Given the size of those additional three ais_snz?-?.vpx files they were around 20MB+ if I remember correctly, add that to your/my 90MB+ of the free version and I would say it is close to being the norm.

Unfortunately when talking about the sandbox, there isn't a norm if the user sandboxes more applications then I guess they would have more of these ais_snz?-?.vpx files. I also don't know how the safezone would fit in here if anything .vpx wise is recorder here.
