Let me clarify.

I have three Avast services running. However, if I right click any given file to scan it, it says Avast is not running. Avast's tray icon does not appear. There are no update notifications. I have to actually start the program itself for this aspect of the program to work.

I have done absolutely everything I have been able to find to fix this. I checked the registry (There's an entry there for the program, but it apparently doesn't fire), I uninstalled with the uninstaller and reinstalled, nothing has worked. I've messed with the various troubleshooting settings, none of which has helped. I've searched the internet, only finding unrelated problems and problems answered with "it works for me."

ANY help would be appreciated. I am at my wit's end.

Hello mulyana_khaifa, welcome to the forum.

It would be better to start a new topic in the forum, this thread is not really pertinent to your problem.
(If you start a new thread, more people are likely to see it and respond.)

What I would be checking is that there is no other antivirus installed, your Windows is up to date, and try a repair of your installation. Security software should be installed using an administrator account.
WindowsXP Home SP3,Avast Free 5.1.889,Windows Firewall, Autorun Eater,Firefox w/Noscript+ /Adblock+/Better Privacy, IE8 all zones except MS Update set to "untrusted" settings,MVPS Host file.SecuniaPSI.

As this topic is originally from a year ago it would be best to start a new topic or if your issue is the same as your earlyer topic please revert to asking your question there.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Tech, thanks for covering this issue so long after the fact.  The repair worked for me.  I had this exact same problem but not on a freshly formatted disc.  Midnight Voyager's problem (sorry you had the problem MV, but it helped me that you posted it, so thanks) kept me from reinstalling along with your help.  My problem wasn't on a freshly formatted HD as I stated, but, since MV's was, I know I would have been in alot of trouble without your help.  Also thanks to Avast for taking this problem seriously and covering it with the repair tool.  Literally, one press of the button and Avast is back running in the system tray...and on reboot too!

Edit...sorry I forgot to say that I am using Windows XP, so this can happen in more than just 7...
