Virusdb update
« on: July 28, 2004, 09:22:25 AM »
I reinstalled Avast (I'm user Avast for years) on a Windows XP Pro and asked for a new registration-key. After a full virus scan (nothing to find)  :D, I saw that the last virusdb update was from Juli 11. No further update was done and even manually  no update  happened??? The auto-update is on. How can I reactivate (I monitored the bitstream on the cable - nothing). Can somebody advice - thanks a lot / Dingo

Is this the home version of Avast? If so, it needs to be re-registrered after 14 months. Get a new free key, put it in and everything should be working again.

Well, this is an home version and the key was sent and in use today but the automating update is still not awake. Re-install from the beginning?
Thanks a lot

Yup, remove, reboot and reinstall. See if that solves it.

Good luck.

An other thing I just discovered is that when filling a www.... address in the Start/Run box, the answer is: Windows cannot open www.... please verify etc, but the connection to www.... occurs!
Probably this has an similar influence on the (automatic) connection Avast wants to make to update the virus db.
How to cute this ? ? ? - Thanks a lot

These are the same symptoms some viruses have. Please follow the instructions on the page in my signature. Instead of running a local virus scan, run 1 or 2 online scans to see if anything comes up. Let's make sure the system as clean (for as far as possible at this moment)
