Avast Firewall... conflicts with Microsoft Fw?
« on: August 16, 2010, 02:49:07 AM »
I am trying avast Internet Suite, I am new on this...

I would like to know if I CAN run microsoft firewall and avast firewall together.
Microsoft says it could be not recommended in some cases.

i would like to know what Avast have to say about this.

Should I use both or just Avast?

My setting is: Home Network... what does this mean? it is supposed to be the "weak" level on the options work/bussiness and public are stronger?? so my set is the right for me?

You can. I do.
You can use only avast if you want. The avast developers have recommended both in the past.

I've emailed Vlk on this matter and he said that the avast! Firewall will run fine with the Windows Firewall on. However, there will be no advantages of doing so. I suggest using the Work Zone because that is often the correct choice, and it is the default.

there’s no simple answer to this question. We leave the built-in Windows firewall on as it doesn’t do any harm to do so. While some firewalls may conflict with each other, the avast firewall + Windows firewall do not (we have tested that many times). For example, me myself have both running.

As I said in the email, I don’t know of any specific advantages.
