Unable to re-register free version!

MY free version is going to expire on 9/1/2010. I went into 'maintenance', then 'registration' and I clicked 'register now', which took me to the choices between staying with the free version or upgrading. I clicked 're-register' under the 'stay with avast! free antivirus' and a pop up says 'retrieving information, please wait' ...but after a few seconds, nothing else happens and the expiration date does not change. Still says it expires 9/1/2010!  >:(

Perhaps it is to early to re-register and you'll have to wait a little bit longer for doing this correctly.

You will get a notification around 14 days before you need to re-register, at that point the Registration element of the avastUI will change to allow for that.

So you shouldn't actually be able to click register now unless you have had an update notification (so I'm somewhat surprised you have been able to do this) ?

My husband and I have the same thing....It says registered till 9/1/2010. I also did the re register thing and it just sits there. According to mine I have 22 days left, so when the time is right will I have to get a new license number by e-mail or will it just re register and put a license number in?

Thank you for your help..... :)

BTW..I like the new version as much as the old, and the scans are much quicker.   8)

When you get the notification to re-register presumably the avastUI will allow the update process to occur. What surprises me is that you are even able to attempt early re-registration as I was of the belief that the UI changes only after notification to re-register.

I was surprised as well as I had tried it before but nothing showed. Hubby had asked me what we do after 9/1/2010 and I had to admit I had no clue, then decided to come here and saw the post from someone else having the same issue.

On July 1st when I turned on my computer it showed a box saying my Avast was outdated and then downloaded the new version. I thought I would need to register for a new license number, but it said..REGISTERD till 9-1-2010 so I am waiting it out, but don't want it to expire so came here to ask what next.

Do you know if the new registration will be for a complete year?  Hopefully all will go smoothly when I do get to re-register, if not, I'll be back asking questions.   ;D

Yes it will be for the year, what you found was installing avast 5.0 over avast 4.8 retains the registration information from the 4.8 settings and transfers that to the 5.0 install so you don't have to register.

Ok, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if I had to go online and get one by e-mail or what. I'll wait another few days and try again, as I still have till 9-1.
