Aavmker4 error in 5.0.594
« on: August 10, 2010, 02:50:37 PM »
I understand this system start driver is related to Avast.  In the event viewer on my XP netbook with packs 2 and 3 running it shows as a failure error.
I've had numerous problems with MS updates on this machine lately and I want no errors at all.  What do I do about this one.

It is related to avast, see image, locations on my XP Pro SP3 system.

What is the full text info on the error, does it create a windows even viewer entry (if so get the info there) ?

Does this happen on every boot or is this the first time ?

It does appear to be the first time in the event viewer as a Service Control Mgr. Problem in System not Application.

It is hard to tell with the info available, but if it is a first time I would just monitor things, e.g. if it happens again or becomes a regular occurrence. Normally you get a faulting application and faulting module mentioned and it can be down to the module that fails flagging the application using it at that time.

The aavmker4.sys is the avast! Asynchronous Virus Monitor driver and from its name (the ker bit) is a kernel mode driver. See http://www.runscanner.net/file/Aavmker4.sys.html avast! Base Kernel-Mode Device Driver for Windows NT/2000/XP.
