edit: lol, I'm in Chrome and it's got flash player built in so I can't check , gotta switch to Firefox...

okay so:

1 http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
2 select 7/Vista/XP
3 click on continue
4 click on 10.1 for IE >>> chose Flash Player 10.1 for Windows Internet Explorer  click on "agree and continue" (not on continue) >>> download!!!
5 go back to the last page
6 select OS again and click continue
7 click on "Flash Player 10.1 for Windows - Other Browsers" >>> click on "agree and continue" (not on continue) >>>download!!!

install both and you're done.

okay there's nothing more I can tell you: when I do that I access the downloads, i.e. the files, and not the dm. Oh yes, there's something more I can tell you : clear your private data in Firefox >>> cookies and cache, and try again. (and if you can just after that do a disk cleanup to get rid of of the crap in your temp folders, or use CCleaner, but be careful with it)

Try downloading both versions from majorgeeks.com http://majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Flash_Player_d5163.html, save to your hard disk, disconnect from the internet, close your browser/s and install. I normally reboot after installing, as for IE I think it needs it to have the activeX component to be recognised.

could also be that you already had the dm implemented in Firefox from a previous flash player install...check your add-ons.

I normally reboot after installing, as for IE I think it needs it to have the activeX component to be recognised.

You actually do not have to reboot in IE. If you go back to the page that checks your flash version, (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about), after it says that the installation was successful, It will show that you are now using the new version. Of course this is if you use the download manager.

I am fully aware of what Secunia does and I still say that it's not necessary. I've tried it and it says to update things that I have decided long ago, for various reasons, not to update. I will only update things if there is a security risk involved or if the update will give me new features or fix bugs that are affecting my usage. If everything is working and I can do what I want to do, I leave well enough alone. If there are security risks, you are always alerted to that by other means if you follow things like ZDNET and other web resources. If it's critical enough, it will be reported on your home page no matter which one you use. Everything I use provides a way to know if there are updates available built into the application. I don't just blindly update everything just because there is an update available. I do let Windows update itself automatically though since I have never had a problem with any update since my 98SE days. I would like to see Adobe make the Flash Player update automatically.
A lot of what I see recommended to either use or do is just not necessary for the great majority of computer users.

hey it took time ...but still, interesting to notice that you first posted  a couple of hours ago in this thread without commenting my "trash", but finally couldn't resist to say a little word because in the end, I know, that hurts (and that's why you did respond)

I never go back to that place since I didn't start at adobe, but downloaded an off-line installation file from majorgeeks as in the text you quoted. I avoid using IE wherever possible but my default browser, firefox. So just making sure by doing a reboot.
