Boot time Scan problem in windows 7
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:20:42 AM »
Hi everybody,
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate Os.
I have installed Avast free anti virus4.8 ;I found that Boot time scan option is Grayed (i.e. Boot time Scan is bot possible).
Why is it so? is there is a virus in my system that is blocking the Boot time Scan.

Do you have a 64-bit system?

May I ask why you installed 4.8 instead of 5.0.594 (the latest version of Avast)?  4.8 support will be discontinued after the end of this year.

If the option is greyed out it is most likely that you are running a 64bit OS version of win7 and currently the boot-time scan isn't available in either avast 4.8 or 5.0, but it is planned for avast 5.1 which is hoped will be released in Sept/Oct this year (though those are estimated and not firm dates).

The boot-time scan for 64 bit OSes will only be available for avast 5.1 (and not 4.8.) when released. So as has been mentioned you would be better served by installing avast 5.0. Not to mention avast 5.0 is better than avast 4.8.
