Avast 5 is installed and seems to be working fine.  I did it the easy way, and just ran the free 5 installation exe file.  It shut down and deleted Avast 4.8 and installed Avast 5.

I hope you update your signature and I hope you keep Windows Defender updated on your Windows 7 system and is it 32bit or 64bit ???

From Windows Defender portal:
Latest definition version: 1.89.175.0
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/ADL.aspx

Thanks YoKenny.  I tend to forget to update the signature, so I just did that.
My Windows Defender updates itself on the windows 7 machine.  It is 32 bit.

@ roro

Go to Start on your Windows 7 system then enter Windows Defender then you will see its current definitions and update level and you can set its Quick scan timing.

I have mine set for once per day at 7:00 AM and current is:
Client Version:  6.1.7600.16385
Engine Version: 1.1.6103.0
Antispyware definitions: 1.89.207.0
