Avast free wont update. [disreguard..]

I just installed avast (I had it before), after coming back to windows.
 However, for some reason it's not updating the virus defs or even checking for them.  Same with the program update check.

All it does is 'Initializing, please wait..."

version: 5.0.594

It suddenly started to work out of the blue.. (update servers down maybe at the time? *shrug*)
