Hard to say, limited input to go on.

What is your O.S.?

You say avast! home, that is ver. 4, but show a ver.5 setup file. Which one are you trying to install?

what was your previous antivirus program before you try to install avast? and how did you uninstall it?

could be malware blocking avast from installing to.

download install update scan with malwarebytes.

http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

if malwarebytes is finding anything hit remove it will then quarantine the file first before malwarebytes is removing it in case of false threat reboot might be necessary if dealing with hard malware.

good luck and let us know how it goes or if you need more help from us.

you have to reomve any previous installed AV program before you install avast
so if you have used any AV program or your PC was deliverd with one when new, you must remove it

It is recomended to run a removal tool to remove all leftovers after the uninstall....
you can find a removal tool here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/

Sometimes AV's do not install or work properly because of malware.  Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).

·   Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ for an on-demand scanner.
·   Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
·   After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
·   Under Settings:
o   General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o   Scanner SettingsCheck all boxes
o   Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
·   Once the program has loaded, select "Perform FULL Scan", then click Scan.
·   The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
·   When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
·   Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found.  You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
·   The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
·   Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts -- Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process; If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

This is an excellent on-demand scanner to keep and many of us use it as it does not conflict with Avast.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you.  :)

Several things cause AV's not to install properly.  You either have remnants of a previous security software on your machine, you have malware on your system, or something is corrupt with your system...to name the most common.

1. You claim you removed the AVG from your system...right?  Did you reboot after doing this?  If not, run the AVG uninstaller tool again and REBOOT.

2. Did you have any other security software on your system, even if it was a trial AV?  What is your FW?  What other security software is on your machine?

3.  Are you MS Updates current?

4.  Is your machine acting "normal" otherwise?

After you confirm that you have no remnants of security software on your machine and that your MS Updates are or were current, then please try the following below:

Uninstall and a CLEAN install of Avast:

1. Save a copy of newest version of Avast (5.0.594) for the version you need and save it to your HDD:
Freehttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.0 and 5.0).  You will need to uninstall BOTH v. 4.0 and 5.0.
3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
4. Uninstall Avast through "Add/Remove Programs" through Control Panel (if possible).
5. Boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
6. Reboot.
7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot twice.
8. Get Internet access and update Avast definitions.
9. Register your copy or add the license key for Free http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php.

Should this fail, turn on Windows Defender as resident and update your definitions so that you have AV protection.

Please report back to us.  Thank you.

Edit:  This is the new download for Avast FREE version 5.0.677: Freehttp://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#tab4
