Will Sandbox ever allow Java to run in IE8 browser?
« on: September 04, 2010, 03:37:22 PM »
Even with the latest release candidate of Avast! 5 Build 5.0.673 you can not run Java on web pages in IE8 browser when using IE8 in Sandbox mode.

For me Sandbox is the only reason to own Avast Pro.

So what I am asking is will this ever be fixed?

Or is this just the way it will always be?

I need to know because my current license is due to expire next month. And if I can not run Java on web pages in IE8 browser when IE8 is running in Sandbox mode then there really is no reason for me to buy another pro licence.

For example at this page http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?java=1  there are speed test that run using Java. And Sandbox is not allowing the java plugin to load.

I never have used IE8 in the Sandbox.

I like to have system Layered Protection with several security applications.

* An up to date anti virus application:  avast!

* An up to date anti malware application like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM)

* Up to date HOSTS file that prevents access to known malware sites with hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS file managed with HostsMan.

* A system Security monitor that watches over them that WinPatrol provides.

You do realise that you are still running a pre-release version of avast, so it isn't finished, ready for a regular release.

So in regards to your "So what I am asking is will this ever be fixed?" the jury would be out on that until it is the regular release version.

That said, given the number of people using the pre-release version yours is only the second topic relating to a problem with JAVA and again this is only on a few sites and not for all sites using JAVA. So this isn't a simple case of JAVA not working on any JAVA based site.

Edit: Does IE8 work on this site which uses JAVA, http://secunia.com/, the software inspector check.

I also added Windows Live Mail 2011 Beta to Sandbox mode and it will now even start up!

Sandbox looks to have a lot of issues.
