AIS 5 shuts down system
« on: September 08, 2010, 06:14:03 PM »
I have a customer that upgraded to Avast Internet Suite 5 from the free version 4.8. The system will not load Windows past the log-on screen, and actually powers the machine down. This is a Windows7 Home Premium system. Anyone one else ran into this?

Hi rusa55, are you able to start in safe mode? boot cpu tapping f8 repetedly, if you are able to this i would suggest doing a restore then download a fresh copy of avast 5.0.677 and the removal tool. Delet avast though add remove programs and reboot then run removal tool to clean up left overs then you should be free to install new version 5.0.677.

Have tried the above steps, uninstalled with the removal tool, re-downloaded the file, same results. Should mention that this is a clean system, no spyware or virus issues, and it will run fine with Avast Free.

I suggest an installation from scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it.
5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
7. Check and post the results.

Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice. Used the uninstall tool both times, after uninstalling from control panel. Downloaded a fresh copy with same results......

Are you sure there aren't remains of other antivirus in this computer?
Any other security program that could interfere?
