I was on 4.8 and tried to initiate my first boot scan, as suspect things have occurred. Because my Windows 7 is 64 bit this could not be done, 4.8 being 32 bit only.

However the blurb for version 5 said it was compatible with all versions of Windows 7, and thinking that would bu this stage include 64 bit. Not so, which is very disappointing. ::) :(

Apart from going to the paid version (NOT on!) is there  something I may have missed, or a work-round to facilitate  a boot time scan.

May be it's back to rival AVG :-\

Wait just another month or two and v.5.1 will be out and you will be able to do a boot scan with 64-bit with Avast.

So pro tem it looks like 'bye bye Avast. I need the scan now. TBH I feel misled by Avast's claim to be compatible with all versions of Windows. >:(

Avast is compatible with all version's of window's xp onward's but the boot time scan has not been implimented yet as they are still working on it, as SafeSurf has said this will be out soon in version 5.1. Edit/ as far as i know avg does not have boot scan and is definitely no rival to avast  ;D

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Why do you need the boot scan now? Is there malware you are having trouble removing?

Post the details, please, so help/suggestions can be offered.

Do you know of another product that offers any boot scanning, 64bit or not?
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

avast was the first AV to introduce the boot-time scan for 32bit OSes and when it introduces it or 64bit OSes in the avast 5.1 version it will be I believe another leader in the AV industry.

Before the boot-time scan came along, people had to use safe mode and run a scan or use a boot CD with an AV, so these options are still open to you until avast 5.1 is released.
